INTERVIEW WITH VANGUARD ALLURE'S FREELANCE STYLIST WALE OYERINDE

What was it that made You become a stylist?
I've always loved fashion....I've been doing fashion since I can remember, fashion seem to be in my DNA actually (laughs). Fashion styling for me started as a result of wanting to do something that involves my personality and defines my sense of style from my very own perspective. I believe styling goes beyond just putting pieces together, its about interpreting a vision based on ones personal knowledge of fashion and trends, and this has been one of my reasons for becoming a stylist.

The industry dates back to when leafs were strewn together as coverings to the human body.Fashion is usually interchangeable with style. It refers to how something appears or the way it is expressed.fashion or style is the idea of the designer, it is an inner expression of the original thought of the individual.

MEET NIGERIAN CELEBRITY STYLIST DU JOUR DIMEJI ALARA

What was it that made You become a stylist?
It’s been a long way for me. I didn’t start out as a stylist but somewhere along the way I got caught up in it. Besides, fashion for me is inborn. It’s what I grew up knowing and it’s a huge part of my life. I look at it from an artistic point of view because that’s the way I’ve always seen fashion. Though the journey has been a really tough one, I can’t complain. What doesn’t kill you, they say makes you stronger.

BEAUTIFUL SKIN, ISN'T IT WORTH IT?

Imagine yourself walking into a room and everyone is gazing at your smooth skin beaming with luscious radiance and health, of course it is the desire of every woman or man to have that. Well, here are some tips to help you achieve that wonderful glow you were born with. Firstly you need to know your skin type, by skin type I mean whether you have oily, normal, dry, combination and sensitive skin type. If you experience oil or greasiness on your face some minutes after washing your face, then you have an oily skin type.If your face feels normal or less oily on every part of your face and you have oil around your t-zone that is, your forehead down to your nose then you might be experiencing combination skin.

SUNNY DELIGHT!!!

Shades are gonna make big statements this summer. From the bold colorful trends to the oversized seventies, shopping or strolling a trendy fashionista must not be seen without one.
Premium sunglasses (which of course are designers) are cut out and assembled by hand, which makes them strong and not easily damaged. Most of them come with optical lenses and you can always get a replacement if something goes wrong with it (even after five years). But for a cheap trendy hit,the high street is key.As all shades requirement is to have 100% UV protected lenses.

When cleaning your lenses, do not use any piece of clothing cos you would scratch them.Always clean them with a micro fibre cloth and keep your sunglasses in a hard case when not in use.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT LENSES
  • Polarized: Coated with iodine crystals, these block unwanted glare and reflections from other surfaces like water.
  • Photochromic: These type of lense darken or lighten depending on light.
  • Inter-changeable: Frames with more than one set of lenses that you can swap according to weather conditions.
  • Anti-reflective: It reduces "back glare" from the inner side of the sunglasses.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT FRAMES
  • YOUR FACE IS OVAL: You have a slightly narrower jaw than temples and your jaw tapers evenly to your chin.
BEST FRAMES- Any shapes works for you.
  • YOUR FACE IS SQUARE: You have a strong jaw line with the same width face at the forehead as it is across your cheekbones.
BEST FRAMES- Round, oval and cat's eye.
  • YOUR FACE IS HEART SHAPE: You have fantastic wide cheek bones that tapers down to a small chin.
BEST FRAMES- Cat eye's or round frames.
  • YOUR FACE IS LONG: You have a long and slender face with a narrow chin or high forehead.
BEST FRAMES- Oversize or wrap styles.
  • YOUR FACE IS ROUND: You have a full face with a rounded chin.
BEST FRAMES- Wide & rectangular frames.

THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS

The little black dress vividly defines itself in its name....it is an evening or cocktail dress, cut simply and often worn short. Fashion historians ascribe the origins of the little black dress to the 1920s designs of Coco Channel. Since that era the little black dress in it's ubiquity has simply been referred to as the "LBD" and it has since remained an industry in the world's women's fashion.

THE RETURN OF COLOR BLOCKING

The colour blocking trend was massive last year for Spring/Summer and looks set to continue this year if the designers and high street have anything to say about it. Looking at the current collections for Spring/Summer that are continuing to filter out over the last few weeks we have seen a massive variety of bold colour statement garments.
The great thing about colour blocking is you are encouraged to experiment and clash bold colours together… fuchsia and pink? Yes! Pink with lime green? Yes! Go for bold statement pieces and keep your outfit really simple. A bold coloured top with bold coloured shorts or a skirt is enough to really stand out and get yourself noticed in the sun this year. Try and stick to the bright spring colours to really get on trend, so think about mixing together pastels this season as well as neons and acid tones.

Tips to Wear
So with trends that come round each year, it makes it easier to avoid the mistakes you made last year. To help you out though we have put together some essential tips in order to have your colour blocking looking its best this Spring/Summer.
Colour block for your body type – If you are skinny then horizontal blocks of colour will work well to give the illusion of curves where you want them. Likewise if you are already a curvy girl, then use darker shades around the hips in order to give you a more flattering effect.
Three is the magic number – Stick to two or three colours, anymore than that and you might end up looking like a paintbox. Two’s fine but three makes for a more interesting and effective contrast.
Don’t be afraid to clash – The normal rules don’t apply here, so don’t be afraid to clash colours you usually wouldn’t, pinks and reds work well!
Keep it in the family – It’s also effective to contrast two tonal variations with a more contrasting jarring colour, for example pinks and purples against a vibrant lime green.
Be loud and proud – This trend is all about bold bright colours and works best with the most vivid shades.
Keep it simple – Colour blocking always looks best with plain and neutral accessories. So try and break up the colour blocks with cream, black or grey shoes, clutch or belt. Never try to introduce geometric prints or patterns.
Pre-Colour Blocked Garments – These take away the pain of having to coordinate your colour clashing and allows you to just throw them on and look amazing. Look for amazing summer dresses that will really catch the eye and use colour blocked tops with plain leggings or shorts for a great casual day look.
If you are lacking inspiration and struggling to come up with colour combinations that work for you, there is again a whole host of colour blocking tops and dresses available which already have the different coloured panels integrated. These take the pain out of being on trend and we noticed a whole host of celebrities wearing the famous Vera Wang colour block dress last year, so you will not be alone.
